Russia Reserves 3.5GHz Band for the Military, Not 5G
Russia has pulled away from using 3.5GHz as a 5G spectrum band, instead reserving it for military use, just as initial millimeter-wave 5G deployments start in Moscow.
President Putin has reportedly reserved the 3.4-3.8GHz band for military and intelligence uses, rather than 5G, The Moscow Times reports. Russia's Communications Ministry has proposed using the 4.4GHz-4.99GHz for mid-band 5G instead.
The 3.5GHz band is expected to be widely used for 5G as it is deployed in 2020. South Korea has already rolled nationwide 5G on 3.5GHz.

Low-Band Will Take 5G Indoors, Just Not Quite Yet
One aspect that is less mentioned about low-band 5G is how much better it will be at penetrating indoor areas than current high-band millimeter wave deployments in the US.
2020 is going to be the first year where 5G starts to go indoors. This will largely happen as low-band 5G arrives with AT&T probably delivering service via a 700MHz network and T-Mobile using its 600MHz spectrum to deliver nationwide services in the US.

FCC to Free 300MHz of C-Band for 5G in November, Analysts Say
According to a new report from the analysts at Wall Street firm New Street Research, the FCC will likely vote in November to free up 300MHz of spectrum in the C-Band for 5G.
At least, that's the conclusion that the analysts have drawn from a new round of filings on the topic at the FCC. The C-Band remains a topic of hot debate among companies in the wireless, satellite and media industries. Wireless companies have been clamoring for the agency to release more mid-band spectrum like the C-Band for 5G; they argue such spectrum provides the right balance between coverage and capacity, and that it will aid the US in its "race" against China to 5G. Satellite and media companies, meantime, have warned that they make extensive use of the C-Band and that the FCC should not embark on extensive changes to the band.more>>
Analyst Firms Are Raising Their Global 5G Forecasts
5G in the US is just now beginning to hit its stride, with operators like Verizon and Sprint launching 5G services in a growing number of markets and expanding their 5G handset lineups.
And though most analysts believe that sales of 5G-capable phones so far in the US have been relatively lackluster -- one estimate found that just 29,000 5G devices were sold in the second quarter -- a growing number of analysts are expecting that to change dramatically in the months and years to come. Analyst firms like Gartner, IDC and Nomura have recently raised their forecasts for 5G device sales globally.
