Recently, Chile's leading telecom operator Mundo, in partnership with FiberHome, has launched the first 50G PON technology solution in America in the capital, Santiago. This marks Chile's entry into the global forefront of the next-generation fiber access technology and sets a new benchmark for the digital infrastructure in Latin America.

As a pioneer in the digital transformation of Latin America, Chile has in recent years listed high-speed fiber-optic broadband networks as a core infrastructure support the development of the digital economy through policies such as the “2035 Digital Transformation Strategy” and the “Smart Industry Strategy”. With the rapid penetration of enterprise services, telecommuting, ultra-high-definition live broadcasting, and cross-border e-commerce in the region, the bottlenecks of bandwidth, latency, and connection density existing networks are increasingly highlighted, and there is an urgent need for the next-generation technology to break the deadlock. 50G PON, as one of the advanced fiber access technologies, has ultra-high bandwidth, ultra-low latency, and massive connection characteristics, which can not only meet the immediate needs of high-bandwidth services but also support the future needs of Chile’s long-term digital society construction, becoming a key to connect the pulse of digital economy development.
Faced with the demand for network upgrade in Chile, Mundo and FiberHome have built a joint innovation laboratory to explore the commercialization of 50G PON technology. This year, they successfully completed the first 50G PON field service pilot in Chile. Focusing on the two core scenarios of and business, they have verified the technical performance and the ability to coexist with multiple generations of networks, and achieved a series of results. The 50G PON solution launched this time has its core advantages in two dimensions: performance leap and cost control: In terms of performance, compared with the existing 10G PON technology, bandwidth is increased by 5 times, the delay is reduced to the microsecond level, and it can easily carry ultra-high-definition video, enterprise-level cloud storage, live broadcasting and other high-bandwidth services, bringing high-speed network channels to users. In terms of network evolution, FiberHome's 50G PONLT platform is compatible with the existing network GPON, 10G PON business cards and user terminals, reusing the ODN network to maximize the protection of the operators existing investment, achieving on-demand upgrades and efficient deployment, and providing an economical and efficient solution for the sustainable development of Chile's communication network.
"Mundo has always been committed to introducing the world's advanced communication technology to Chile, bringing users an ultimate network experience. From market to technology leaders, FiberHome has always been our core partner in realizing the vision of 'bridging the digital divide'." Enrique Coulembier, CEO Mundo, stated at the launch event that the debut of the 50G PON technology solution is the result of long-term close cooperation between the two sides, and it enables Chile to achieve a major leap in the field of communication technology. Wang Zhifeng, president of the broadband business output line of FiberHome, pointed that this debut is not only an important milestone for FiberHome's deep cultivation of the Latin American market, but also a model of collaborative innovation in the high-tech field China and Chile, which will promote the development of digital inclusiveness in Chile. Digital infrastructure is an important part of the core competitiveness of a country. FiberHome deepen cooperation with global partners, take the innovation of optical network technology as the core driving force, promote the implementation of more cutting-edge optical network solutions, and co-p the digital blueprint of the future.
