2017-07-12 11:03:14

China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom will launch a 5G technology pilot in several cities during the second half of this year, the Economic Information Daily reports. The pilot projects will be rolled out in Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Suzhou, and Ningbo, Xinhuanet reports, citing unnamed sources from the three operators.

China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom plan to test the 5G technology, build base stations, and launch applications such as autonomous driving, smart cities, and smart homes based on the network. The pilot projects will then be expanded to 10 or more cities in provinces including Jiangxi, Hainan, Shanxi, Shandong, Zhejiang, and Hebei in the future.

China plans to commercialize 5G mobile networks starting with 2020.
