China Unicom Plans Data Centre Network

Chinese telco working on build out of 2 million square metres of data centre space.

 

China Unicom is planning the rollout of a nationwide network of data centres, according to local press reports.
 
 
The Chinese telco revealed on Thursday that its data centres will be able to accommodate 4 million servers, China Daily reported.
 
 
The company did not disclose how much it would spend on the project or its projected timeline, the news outlet said.
 
 
"When completed, the total area of these data centres will exceed 2 million square metres." China Daily quoted Lu Yimin, China Unicom's general manager, as saying.
 
 
The operator has already built six national data centres and a dozen smaller sites, the report said. The centres host around 1 million servers.
