(Hong Kong, 3 September 2018) i-CABLE Communications Limited (“i-CABLE”) and China Mobile Hong Kong Company Limited (“CMHK”) announced today the signing of a strategic partnership agreement, marking the beginning of cross-platform collaboration in telecommunications and value-added media-related services between the two companies.

The strategic partnership between i-CABLE and CMHK in the telecommunications and multi-media markets will enable the two companies to effectively strengthen their network infrastructures, as well as expand and enhance their existing service portfolios through the supply of multi-media content. Through collaboration, the two companies will be able to provide their customers with more comprehensive, quality services.

Tan Sri Dato' David Chiu, Chairman of i-CABLE, said: “I am very pleased that i-CABLE and CMHK are injecting new forces into the telecommunications and media markets with this strategic partnership. i-CABLE owns a large telecommunications and cable television network in Hong Kong with a coverage of over 95%, providing customers with quality and reliable television, telecommunications, internet, and multi-media services. Both companies are leading the market with diversified business offerings. Leveraging the strong synergy brought by our cross-platform collaboration, we will integrate i-CABLE’s strengths with CMHK’s to enhance our network infrastructure and content supply.”

Chiu added: “As a well-known local television and multi-media programme producer, i-CABLE brings viewers quality news and entertainment programmes. Through this collaboration, CMHK’s designated customers could enjoy our programmes anytime, anywhere. We look forward to fostering a strong, fruitful and long-lasting partnership with CMHK, in addition to providing customers of both companies with more comprehensive services. We will strive to excel in fixed and mobile telecommunications, as well as in providing quality information.”

Dr. Li Feng, Chairman of CMHK, said: “I am delighted with our partnership with i-CABLE. CMHK always attaches great importance to our customers. We are devoted to implementing our ‘four-in-one’ strategy, which caters to the diverse needs of Hong Kong people through the provision of a quality one-stop service covering mobile communications, home fibre broadband, home telephone, and smart home businesses. i-CABLE’s media business is a reputable household brand and they possess one of the fibre-optic networks in Hong Kong. CMHK customers will be able to enjoy a brand-new experience watching their programmes via our mobile network. By integrating the resources of both parties, the strategic partnership will facilitate CMHK’s development of its home broadband business. The significant synergy provided by the partnership will also support CMHK in servicing Hong Kong people with mobile, home broadband, corporate solutions and new businesses. This will, in turn, further strengthen our competitiveness and enhance brand awareness.”

Li Continued: “As we enter the 5G era, we will see not only accelerating mobile network speeds, but also the arrival of smart homes, where most home devices will be connected to the internet, becoming part of the Internet of Things. Mobile internet service providers will not only have to upgrade cell towers, but they will also require high-speed yet stable transmission network support. The partnership with i-CABLE will lay a solid foundation for future 5G development.”

i-CABLE and CMHK are both leaders in providing integrated telecommunications services and mobile internet services. This cross-platform collaboration will dynamically integrate the strengths and creativity of the two companies, develop higher-quality, diversified telecommunications services, and strengthen sales channels. i-CABLE will provide CMHK with a large fixed telecommunications platform for quality programmes. On the other hand, CMHK will proactively build a fibre-optic network to increase its market share in home broadband, while building the necessary infrastructure for the upcoming 5G mobile communication network. The two companies are jointly committed to taking the development of the local telecommunications and media market to a new level.
