Telenor Pakistan Taps Telenor Connexion for IoT Deployment

Telenor Pakistan has picked Telenor Connexion as its IoT partner. Telenor Pakistan has deployed Telenor Connexion’s IoT platform, which is now available to IoT startups and partners in the country.

 

Waqar Nayyar, Telenor Pakistan’s head of IoT, says the operator has been leading the market in financial services and agriculture services and the collaboration enables Telenor Pakistan to explore the possibilities in these areas and build the IoT ecosystem in the country.

 

“Telenor Connexion offers a cost-effective, flexible and scalable solution, which is a prerequisite for a high growth market like Pakistan,” said Nayyar. “With a connectivity solution like this we enable Pakistani companies to connect locally with our existing customers, including over two million farmers using our agriculture services, as well as growing internationally due to Telenor Connexion’s global network.”

 

Pakistan, the world’s fifth-most populous country, is experiencing a booming web development and tech sector with a rapidly growing number of startups and incubators. IoT is getting an increased focus due to its ability to leapfrog advancements in critical areas such as water management, energy and agriculture.

 

Examples of IoT applications in Pakistan are solar-powered home solutions enabling rural households outside of the grid to power TV sets, mobile phone chargers and other electronic devices. 

 

Telenor’s billing system will allow the provider of the solution can charge users a monthly fee instead of an upfront cash payment. Other application areas are OBD (on-board diagnostics) devices for fleet management or IoT solutions integrated with insurance products to reduce the large number of motorcycle thefts.
