From November 4 to 7, the Asia Communications and Photonics Conference (ACP2023) took place in Wuhan. ACP2023 was co-organized by Huazhong University of Science and Technology and YOFC's State Key Laboratory of Optical Fibre and Cable Manufacture Technology (hereinafter referred to as "YOFC State Key Lab"). Luo Jie, Technical Director of YOFC and Director of State Key Lab, served as the General Co-Chair of the conference. The paper titled "Fused Tapered Fan-in/Fan-out Device of 6-Mode 7-Core Fiber Based On OM3 Multimode Fiber", with YOFC as the first author's affiliation, was awarded the "Best Paper Award in Industry Innovation" at ACP2023. More than 1,000 experts, scholars and graduate students from over 10 countries including China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, and France attended the conference.
On November 7, Professor Sir David Neil Payne CBE FRS FREng, Professor of Photonics at the University of Southampton, visited YOFC to give a special lecture on new optical fibre technology. YOFC's leaders, including Zhuang Dan, Executive Director and President, Yan Changkun, Senior Vice President, Zheng Xin, and Wang Ruichun, Vice Presidents, along with over 100 young and middle-aged experts and technical professionals, engaged in fruitful technical exchanges and cooperative discussions with Sir Payne to explore new technology for the future of the optical fibre industry. Luo Jie presided over the special lecture and technical exchange activities.
During ACP2023, the State Key Lab organized an international symposium entitled "Broadband Gain Fibers and Multiband Amplifiers for Optical Communication". The symposium was co-chaired by Li Junjie, Chief Expert of China Telecom and Deputy Director of State Key Lab, Wang Tingyun, Dean of School of Communication and Information Engineering, Shanghai University, and Xiong Liangming, Executive Deputy Director of YOFC State Key Lab.
Sir Payne, along with experts and scholars from renowned domestic and international universities and enterprises such as China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom, and Huawei, were invited to dive into the key technologies of ultra-large-capacity optical communication and superband gain. This aims to collectively explore the new optical fibre and multi-band amplification technologies for next-generation optical communication, as well as their feasibility of application in ultra-400G optical communication systems. Zhong Li, a senior expert at YOFC, made a special report on "Recent Progress of Erbium-doped Active Fibers and Their Applications". In this report, Zhong briefed the participants on the latest progress, manufacture platform and technology, product performance, and solution related to YOFC's erbium-doped fibre (EDF).
At the same time, a product/achievement exhibition was held, where YOFC showcased various eye-catching products. These included specialty optical fibres designed to endure extreme environments, gain fibres and amplifiers, lensed fibres, and optical fibre sensors.
Co-sponsored by OPTICA, SPIE, IEEE Photonics Society, The Chinese Optical Society, and China Institute of Communications, ACP stands as one of the world's top three conferences on optical communication, as well as the largest international conference on optical communication in terms of scale, participants, and influence in the Asia-Pacific region.
As a co-organizer of top academic conferences in the industry, such as ACP, multiple times, the State Key Lab has forged a bond of academic exchange and industry-university-research cooperation with experts and scholars from domestic and foreign research institutions. This continuous effort has enhanced the international academic influence and reputation of both YOFC and the State Key Lab.
