Fibrization makes millions of Filipino Family’s Ultra-fast broadband dream come true

2019-12-23 15:31:31

Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) Company, the country’s leading telecoms and digital service provider, has invested a lot in fixed networks and established ADSL-based broadband networks with over 5 million users during last decade.

Faced with the threat of competition from potential emerging operators, PLDT plans to continue the expansion of the user scale, and announced that by 2020, the business scope will be expanded to 6 million households nationwide while improving network bandwidth capabilities.

PLDT is rolling out fiber-fast connectivity via the deployment of FTTH facilities, so great amount of new subscribe can immediately enjoy speeds of up to 1Gbps. However, considering the large number of copper users on the existing network and the impact of project budgets, hybrid fiber technologies such as FTTB + VDSL will become the mainstream technology for network construction. After technology exchange and research with Fiberhome, PLDT decided to use fiber + Vectored VDSL technology to upgrade the existing ADSL network and complete this upgrade in 2020.

Based on the above goals, FLDT launched a flagship project called Fibrization, which used VVDSL technology to upgrade the existing copper wire network to achieve fiber access speed similar to FTTH.

In terms of Fiberhome ‘s huge technical advantages in the FTTx field and the implementation experience of turnkey projects, PLDT selected FiberHome as one of the product and service providers for the project. They held several technical seminars in different regions, and identified four feasible scenarios for project implementation.

Fibrization project involves four (4) scenarios:

•FTTB or FTTC

Wherein Hybrid MSAN is installed inside the building or on a cabinet on the curb. Which more than 60% of subscribe are suitable for in this scenario.By migrated to VVDSL,subscribe can get the great improvement on bandwidth from <5M to 50M~100M.

•XCC or cross-connect

Wherein the cross-connect cabinet will be replaced and installed with MSAN equipment. This is to bring the device closer to the user which can limit the copper distance to support high speeds.•FTTH overlay

Wherein ADSL subscribers will be migrated directly to fiber existing within the coverage area.

•DFA or direct-feed area,

Wherein the old MSAN in the central office will be upgraded to the VVDSL/GPON hybrid MSAN.

PLDT has held several workshops with FiberHome for the different PLDT zones nationwide for the implementation of the project.

for the implementation of the project.

Based on rich experience in turnkey projects, comprehensive product portfolio, and end-to-end optical fiber copper wire hybrid access solution capabilities, FiberHome is advancing project implementation efficiently. Helping PLDT upgrade copper facilities to VVDSL access or directly build GPON fiber users. MSAN facilities support both VVDSL and VDSL2 35b Super Vector function, which can provide access speeds up to 350 Mbps.

The Fibrization project is is about to be completed. PLDT DSL users will enjoy 50M to 100M speed of broadband Internet connections. By 2020, FiberHome will continue to assist PLDT expand its broadband network coverage, cover more regions across the country, and fullfill the target of 6 million households’ coverage.

Fiberhome Fibrization implementation

As an internationally renowned provider of broadband products and services, FiberHome ranks Top 4 in market share. The global FTTX shipments have exceeded 80 million lines which serve over 200 million people. Fiberhome will continue to deepen good cooperation with operators such as PLDT. Establish a high-quality broadband network to bring an ultra-wide and ultra-fast network experience to each home.
