China Mobile and FiberHome Completed SD-WAN Interoperability Pilot in Existing Network

2019-12-24 15:30:26

Recently, the SD-WAN interoperability pilot conducted by China Mobile and FiberHome has been a complete success. With the coordinated efforts of multiple parties, service pull-through was achieved between CPE hardware terminals and VCPE (virtual CPE) from multiple vendors. Based on the existing network, the verification of the three major business scenarios of branch interconnection, Internet access and cloud entry was implemented. As a representative manufacturer of VCPE products, FiberHome participated in the pilot throughout the process. It marked that FiberHome and China Mobile entered a new stage of cooperation in the SD-WAN field.

SD-WAN is the sword of Damocles in operators’ government and enterprise business

The rapid development and popularization of cloud computing technology has brought unprecedented opportunities for enterprises' digital transformation. The migration of enterprise applications to the cloud has become the general trend. At the same time, the traditional WAN service delivery model can no longer respond quickly to the ever-changing needs of enterprises. The emergence of SD-WAN technology has brought benefit to the enterprise. It applies the software-defined concept to the wide area network, and realizes the flexible distribution of services and visual operation and maintenance. With SD-WAN, enterprises can use low-cost network connections to achieve high-quality self-built networks. This undoubtedly brings inevitable challenges to operators' government and enterprise business. On the other hand, some core technologies such as deployment automation, intelligent routing, and service visualization introduced by SD-WAN not only can be used by operators, but also the only way and important mean to improve the capabilities of government and enterprise network services.

Is SD-WAN a highly closed system? FiberHome and China Mobile have given different answers.

Since its birth, SD-WAN products have been regarded by the industry as highly closed systems. The core components such as orchestrators, controllers, and network elements are highly coupled. Inter-vendor interoperability between components is considered as a nightmare. In order to avoid the situation of vendor monopoly and better integrate the results of its own technological innovation, China Mobile needs a highly customized solution. As a leader in domestic SD-WAN products, FiberHome has also been committed to providing users high-quality customized solutions. This time, China Mobile and SD-WAN partners represented by Fiberhome promoted the pilot of inter-vendor interoperability and fully verified the interoperability of network elements in the three major scenarios of branch interconnection, Internet access, and cloud entry, laying a solid foundation for China Mobile SD-WAN products.

The industry ecology is developing well, and the prospect of SD-WAN is bright

China Mobile has been committed to creating an open SD-WAN industry ecology a few years ago, and has already achieved initial results. The partners have completely covered all aspects such as hardware terminals, virtualized network elements, controllers, and orchestrators. With the continuous advancement of standardization, interoperability between different vendors will gradually enter the deep water area. As a mainstream SD-WAN solution provider, Fiberhome is optimistic about the prospects of China Mobile SD-WAN, and will be deeply involved in China Mobile SD-WAN product research and development, testing and commercialization, and strive to become an important partner of China Mobile open SD-WAN industry ecology.
