"Core technologies are national treasures that we must establish for ourselves; we must possess them in our hands". On May 30, coinciding with its 30th anniversary, YOFC established an intelligent manufacturing research institute in association with the National Engineering Center of Digital Manufacturing Equipment, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and the School of Industrial and Systems Engineering, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, to intensify independent innovation.
Integrating the three founders' superior resources in the fields of fibre and cable manufacturing, intelligent equipment development and big data system integration, the newly-established institute will focus on researching innovative applications of intelligent manufacturing in the fibre and cable industry, and nurturing the appropriate skills. Based on fibre and cable industry and focusing on concrete R&D projects within it, it will accomplish the rationalization of core processes and equipment, the digitalization and networking of the entire manufacturing process, the gradual automation of production and service processes, and the establishment of digitalization workshops, leading to the orderly creation of complete intelligent manufacturing systems.

The three organisations will strengthen cooperation and academic exchanges, and regularly organize academic meetings and forums at the institute to promote international exchange and cooperation.
In recent years, YOFC has persevered in innovation-driven development and independently mastered core technologies, and was thus included in the first list of 46 model intelligent manufacturers in the Made in China 2025 plan. With YOFC's key production equipment and supply chain fully autotomized and localized, it has achieved a switch from "market-driven technology" to a "technology-driven market".
