Networking solutions provider Cisco's new security architecture will meet the demands of Malaysian companies in the current era of transformation.

Commenting on Cisco's unveiling of new services and cloud-based security solutions, Cisco Malaysia managing director Albert Chai said the company's threat-centric architectural approach makes security more effective and simple.

"Malaysian companies are in transit, moving towards an era of new customer experiences, new business models, and greater efficiencies," said Chai.

"For the small and upcoming players, it entails a threatening game of disruption. For the bigger corporations, they face an enormous task of digitizing their business models," he said.  "Knowing this, 63.2 percent of Malaysian organisations according to a recent IDC survey are aiming for more effective digital transformation," said Chai.

"However, attackers and security threats continue to advance as they do. It is at this point when organizations are stifled in their growth, unable to securely expand their networks to implement digital strategies," he said.

Addressing complexity

"The problem is compounded further when companies respond by deploying up to 70 disparate security products addressing a variety of needs - a practice that is difficult to manage and often leaves businesses more vulnerable," Chai said.

"As businesses turn their attention towards cybersecurity as one of the most important pieces of the digitization puzzle, they need a security portfolio that can improve their capabilities while reducing complexity - offering an alternative approach for customers that help them close the gap and be more secure," he said.

"This thinking forms the heart of Cisco's new cloud-based security solutions, which protects the network from the endpoint to the cloud," Chai said.

"With cybersecurity as a critical foundation, both Malaysian disruptors and incumbents can stay committed to their digital business models and continued growth," he said.

Cisco's new solutions and services include:

Cisco Umbrella Roaming: This centralised, cloud-delivered protection is the simplest way to remove off-network blind spots, guarding roaming employees wherever they work. With Umbrella Roaming, now embedded as a module with AnyConnect (Cisco's VPN solution), organizations can add a new layer of off-network protection that blocks connections to malicious sites without needing to deploy another agent.

Cisco Umbrella Branch: This cloud-delivered solution gives businesses more control over guest Wi-Fi use with easy content filtering. With Umbrella Branch, businesses can simply upgrade Integrated Services Routers (ISR) for simple, fast and comprehensive security at branch locations.

Cisco Defense Orchestrator: This cloud-based management application allows users to easily and effectively manage a largesecurity infrastructure and policies in distributed locations across thousands of devices through a simple cloud-based console. It cuts through complexity to manage security policies across Cisco security products from ASA and ASAv firewalls to Cisco Firepower next-generation firewalls and ASA with FirePOWER Services featuring Firepower Threat Defense, and OpenDNS.

Cisco Meraki MX Security Appliances with Advanced Malware Protection (AMP) and Threat Grid: This completely cloud-managed unified threat management (UTM) solution simplifies advanced threat protection for the distributed enterprise, providing branch offices with malware protection that checks files against its cloud database to identify malicious content, blocking the files before users download them.

Cisco Stealthwatch Learning Network License: This component allows the Cisco ISR to act as a security sensor and enforcer for branch threat protection.
