2015-12-04 15:33:55

Expansion of mobile ultra-broaband will increase data download speeds by almost double

Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) is to expand the deployment of 4G LTE for China Telecom across 12 provinces of China, as demand for high-quality ultra-broadband services and applications continues to grow rapidly.

As mobile data demand continues unabated in the world’s largest mobile market, China Telecom wants to expand its 4G LTE network, increasing its capacity to provide customers with faster access to video content, pictures, interactive web content and other high-bandwidth applications to ensure the highest quality of experience and enjoyment by its customers.

The LTE service expansion will take place in 12 provinces. In major cities – where population and data demand is at its highest - Alcatel-Lucent is also deploying its Carrier Aggregation capability. This component of the LTE-Advanced standard allows LTE radios to combine multiple frequency bands to vastly increase data speeds and lower latency, enabling the service provider to provide data downloads of up to double speeds today.

Alcatel-Lucent will complete the deployment this month.

Key Facts:

Alcatel-Lucent’s LTE technology is deployed in most major provinces of China nationwide, and covers cities with the highest GDP in the country.

Alcatel-Lucent will deploy its 9926 eNodeB LTE radio access technology in 12 provinces of China, while introducing LTE-Advanced Carrier Aggregation capabilities for LTE FDD in major cities for the first time in China.

This agreement further expands on the deployment of LTE services announced in March 2015 as China Telecom continues to transform its subscribers’ mobile ultra-broadband experience.

Alcatel-Lucent has established a strong global leadership position in LTE with 87 contracts in 48 countries, serving the top 10 global telecom operators.

Quotes:

YUAN Xin, Chairman and CEO of Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell said: “This agreement continues a long working relationship with China Telecom and further extends our leadership in mobile ultra-broadband access. As data demand continues to rise in the country, we are determined to help China Telecom meet customers’ increasing demand for top quality services”
