Goonhilly taps satellite veteran to lead APAC expansion

2018-09-18 15:36:09

Innovative satellite communications company Goonhilly has appointed a space and satellite industry veteran to lead its business expansion in Australia and Asia-Pacific.

UK-based Goonhilly provides access to all global satellite connections, interconnected with bundles of subsea cables providing global terrestrial reach and local fiber broadband for regional satellite operators, broadcasters and enterprises.

The company recently announced an expansion roadmap that includes investing in infrastructure and facilities in the US and Australia to support globally based deep space projects.

Goonhilly has now appointed Bob Gough to spearhead its expansion in the APAC region and develop new business opportunities for the company.

Gough is a 35-year veteran of the space and satellite communications industry, having had roles including serving as a member of the project team at ESTEC that led to the design and development of OTS, ECS, Marots, Meteosat and Olympus satellites.

During his career Gough has also worked on major satellite projects and systems including Inmarsat, Intelsat, Eutelsat, Skynet and BSB.

“With all the opportunities created by more affordable access to space we are seeing an explosion in creativity and innovation,” Gough said.

“As Goonhilly continues to drive forward the commercial possibilities of space, there will be new business-enhancing opportunities for organisations across Australia and Asia-Pacific.”

Goonhilly's plan to develop facilities in Australia will benefit from the Australian government's recently-announced plan to establish the Australian Space Agency.
