Tiscali, Huawei to Build Fixed Wireless Network in Italy

2016-09-30 09:58:34

Tiscali and Huawei have announced an agreement build a 4.5G LTE TDD Fixed Wireless access network on the 3.5GHz frequency throughout Italy.

The aim is to bring WTTH (wireless fibre to the home) services at speeds of up to 100Mbps to underserved digital divide areas, said the partners, with the multi-year framework contract foreseeing an investment opportunity of up to EUR 40 million. The service is expected to be launched in the fourth quarter of the year and the speed of the service could eventually be scaled up to 1 Gbps.

Tiscali is looking to expand its LTE network to 13 million homes and businesses, above all in digital divide areas, following the completion earlier this year of its merger with WiMax provider Aria Italia.
