Huawei Claims 40% 1H Revenue Hike

2016-07-26 14:15:54

Huawei on Monday announced significant revenue growth in the first half of the year and talked up the progress it has made across its business.

The Chinese equipment maker said sales revenue for the first six months of 2016 reached 245.5 billion yuan (€33.5 billion). That represents growth of 40% year-on-year, it said, without providing comparative figures. However, Huawei did state that its numbers have been reviewed by its auditor.

The firm's operating margin came in at 12%. In a similar announcement a year ago, the company revealed it generated an operating margin of 18% in the first half of 2015.

The figures were accompanied by a lengthy statement in which Huawei shared some key developments at its main business groups over the six-months, including smartphone and laptop launches, talk of technology developments at its carrier business, and references to innovation and partnerships at its enterprise operations.
However, it did not provide sales figures or any hard evidence to back up its claims.

"We achieved steady growth across all three of our business groups, thanks to a well-balanced global presence and an unwavering focus on our pipe strategy," said Sabrina Meng, Huawei's chief financial officer.

The pipe strategy refers to the build-out of ICT infrastructure to support data transmission worldwide, Huawei explained.

"We are confident that Huawei will maintain its current momentum, and round out the full year in a positive financial position backed by sound ongoing operations," Meng said
