Corning and Lightwave Open Nominations for 16th Annual FTTXcellence Award

2019-04-17 15:56:23

Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) and Lightwave today announced the opening of nominations for the 16th Annual FTTXcellence Award, recognizing an individual from North or South America who has demonstrated extraordinary leadership in the deployment of optical access networks.

This year’s award will be presented on Monday, June 3, at Fiber Connect 2019 in Orlando, Florida.

The award highlights the continued importance of optical fiber networks, which has gained widespread notoriety due to the emergence of the Internet of Things as well as 4G densification and preparation for 5G. Each year the award recognizes an exceptional professional whose commitment to bringing fiber to as many people as possible has significantly contributed to the industry and to society as a whole.

“At Corning, we believe that lives are transformed when people have access to reliable broadband. We are proud to recognize the outstanding efforts of individuals who have advanced the use of optical access technology by joining with Lightwave in sponsoring the FTTXcellence Award,” said Kim Hartwell, senior vice president and chief commercial officer, Corning Optical Communications.

“Over the years, we have celebrated people working for large carriers with nationwide networks as well as local service providers from as far north as Canada and as far south as Brazil,” added Stephen Hardy, editorial director and associate publisher of Lightwave. “Expanding access to fiber-based services takes effort across the industry, so if you know someone who deserves to be recognized for making the deployment of high-speed FTTx technology faster, easier, and more reliable, nominate them today.”

Candidates must be nominated by a peer to be eligible for the award. Nominees may include individuals at carriers and system operators, home developers, utilities, municipalities, or other organizations that have launched an FTTx project; individuals at vendors or research organizations whose work has benefited FTTx technology development; elected officials or policymakers who have made a significant positive impact in the regulatory or legal arena; and other deserving individuals. Nominations can be submitted online, and Wednesday, May 1, 2019, is the deadline. A panel of judges from Lightwave, Corning, and the Fiber Broadband Association will select the recipient from the submitted nominations.

In addition to an awards ceremony at Fiber Connect, the recipient will be honored with a donation in his or her name to US Ignite, a non-profit, public-private partnership whose mission is to make the United States the world leader in applications and services for ultra-fast, software-defined networks. The recipient will also receive a decorative glass piece from the Corning Museum of Glass and will be featured in an article on the Lightwave website.
