Australian operator Optus has handed Nokia a five-year contract to manage the operation and maintenance of key components of the operator's network infrastructure.
Under the deal, Nokia will manage the operation of Optus' network infrastructure and take over the field maintenance of Optus' mobile network.
As part of the contract, Nokia and Optus will jointly develop a network operations center that will leverage global best practices and local talent to improve network performance.
Nokia plans to implement extensive automation, robotics and AI as well as network operations and software services to help Optus improve the customer experience and streamline its network operations.
The two companies will periodically review the operator's network structure and operations to ensure Optus can respond to evolving customer demands.
"We are pleased to work with Optus to help them use automation and other network management tools to further enhance the customer experience, operational capability and quality,” Nokia head of managed services Friedrich Trawoeger said.
“This initiative is in keeping with Optus' vision to transform into a mobile-led, multimedia organization. We are leveraging the benefits of our unique Global Delivery Model, which brings together global expertise with local insights, to fully meet the needs of our customers."
