Global Hub for IoT Experts

2017-03-17 15:08:49

The Internet of Things has the potential to make business processes leaner and faster. It holds great promise as an enabler of new business models and a creator of completely new markets. And it is one of the keynote themes at CeBIT 2017. Among much else, CeBIT will feature an IoT Expert Conference, where international visionaries and thinkers will gather to discuss the opportunities and challenges posed by our increasingly interconnected world. The conference will also provide valuable insights into current and future IoT applications.

Hannover. The five-day IoT Expert Conference (Hall 12, Stand B53) gets underway at 9:30 a.m. on the CeBIT Monday with an open CeBITcamp. Styled on the ever-popular BarCamps of the digital industry, the CeBITcamp is an opportunity for representatives of hardware manufacturers, system integrators, Big Data warehouses and industry to meet up with IoT-minded CeBIT attendees for a series of informal sessions on subjects like pioneering product innovations, vertical solutions, disruptive business models and cross-industry benchmarks.

The CeBITcamp sessions will be followed at 3:30 p.m. by the IoT Forum on German-Japanese cooperation in the area of Industry 4.0. The forum will be officially opened by Matthias Machnig, State Secretary at Germany’s Federal Minister of Economic Affairs and Energy as the forum’s official patron. The joint German/Japanese venture on Industry 4.0 has three primary objectives: to enable the two countries to learn from each other, to facilitate cooperation among enterprises and research institutions from the two nations, and to pursue joint solutions internationally. The venture is spearheaded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) with support from Germany’s Industry 4.0 Platform (Plattform Industrie 4.0) and the latter’s Japanese counterpart, the Robot Revolution Initiative. The initial outcomes of the Initiative will be presented at the IoT Forum. These include a strategy paper on international standardization and a blueprint for industrial IT security. Other highlights of the IoT Forum include presentations by two leading lights of the IoT world: Dr. Hironori Hibino of Tokyo University of Science and Dr. Henning Kagermann (Plattform Industrie 4.0, acatech).

Days two, four and five (21, 23 and 24 March) of the IoT Expert Conference are set aside for the IoT Summit. Organized by Deutsche Messe in association with IoT Insights, the summit was a big success in 2016 and this year features a significantly enlarged format. Experts from around the world will use the event to share ideas and insights and present products and services that are destined to transform entire industries. The three-day IoT Summit will focus on five main topic blocks: market-ready IoT applications, business transformation through IoT, the security of devices, solutions and services, development of IoT solutions, and integration of IoT solutions into businesses processes. Highlights of the summit program for Tuesday, 21 March, include the effect of the Internet of Things on Business, IoT monetization, and IoT and the consumer. Tuesday’s keynote speakers include Dr. Holger Schlüter, Head of Competence Centers IoT Solutions, Lufthansa Industry Solutions, and Robert Siagri, CEO Eurotech. The IoT Summit program for Thursday, 23 March focuses on the infrastructure side of the Internet of Things, traversing such topics as data and communications platforms and security management. The day’s keynote speakers include Stefan Hoppe, Global Vice President OPC Foundation; Kai Hackbath, Board Member OSGi Alliance, and Chris Gray, Director Internet of Things, Red Hat. The final day of the IoT Summit, Friday, 24 March, is dedicated to matters of education and business startups in the context of IoT.

The BVDW Forum on Digital Transformation is also back again at this year’s CeBIT, where it constitutes the program for day three (Wednesday, 22 March) of the IoT Expert Conference. The forum will look at what companies need to do in order to master the digital transformation and stay ahead of the competition, focusing in particular on commerce and retail, the Internet of Things and Industry 4.0. The discussions will address a range of topics, including “Digital Retail Transformation in Germany: Strategies, Tactics and Solutions,” “Smart Products, Smart Factory, Smart Everything – Challenges and Solutions for the Internet of Things,” and “How can ‘normal’ companies master the digital transformation?” The forum, which is organized by the German digital business association BVDW, will feature presentations from a whole host of top-flight digital industry executives. The lineup includes Dr. Philipp Reichhart, Program Lead Digital PoS, Payback; Dr. Stefan Pietschmann, Head of Smart M2M Solutions, T-Systems Multimedia Solutions; York Scheunemann, Head of Google Digital Academy DACH & CEE, Google Germany; Thomas Kaiser, Senior Vice President IoT & Industry 4.0, SAP; and Michael Pachmajer, Director Digital Transformation, Family Business and Medium-Sized Companies, PwC.

The IoT Expert Conference provides a comprehensive overview of the latest technology and market developments in the Internet of Things space. It is an absolute must for anyone in business who wants to keep up with the fast-moving world of IoT.
